With her debut collection, Maria Brito features three limited edition clutches with artworks by Erik Parker, Carlos Rolon/Dzine and Kenny Scharf. These day-to-evening accessories accommodate the haute experience of art, as well as the utilitarian simplicity of a well-designed bag. This particular collection is the result of Maria’s contemporary art practice and savvy design strategy. For a simple start, the rectangular shape resembles a canvas much more than a duffel bag, T-shirt or pair of sneakers. The clutches are faithful reproductions of the artists’ works, whether archival or culled from current exhibitions. Each pattern is printed on acrylic using museum-quality techniques so that over time their colors will deepen and brighten. And like any limited-edition print, the artist signatures are etched on the verso.
